Our Christian Mission

YMCA reflects the love of Christ through committing, in relationship, to serve those in the greatest need in our communities. Many of our staff and volunteers seek to live out their faith following Christ's calling to serve the poor.

At the heart of YMCA's work all across Scotland there are groups of people who have been loved, forgiven and blessed in relationship with God and who seek to reflect that in their service and commitment to others. So you will find Christians serving on YMCA Management Boards, as staff and volunteers creating the core of the organisation and maintaining its ethos.

Christ's teaching also urged us to avoid judgement and to love others as ourselves. As such YMCA warmly welcomes into the organisation, as we say in our founding documents, "people of all faiths and of none". This is not an enforced inclusiveness. It is a genuine recognition that the YMCA is a gathering of all people who seek to serve others in need with no one member better than the other.

Our faith base however and the inclusion of people from many different denominations enriches us as a movement; it includes us in the same vision and mission rather than creating difference; it inspires us to discover a God who operates outside of church walls and whose heart breaks to see poverty and pain wherever it exists.
