The Young Roots programme is an innovative project to capture the oral history of the YMCA one of Scotland’s oldest youth organisations. Sharing the Past to Shape the Future uses an inter-generational approach, led by our young people from YMCAs across Scotland, capturing oral histories from across the nation.
The ‘Y’ delivers many services from its central community centre in North Street, Glenrothes. From here numerous community learning and leisure activities take place from youth clubs, disco dancing to badminton and music tuition. The centre also provides information, advice, laundry and shower facilities for homeless people as well as signposting for other services in Glenrothes and Fife. A variety of community groups also use the building. Activities range from counselling and young carers support, to health checks and weekly hot food for people in need.
Glenrothes ‘Y’ values and welcomes everyone equally. We are dedicated to delivering practical support, services and information, demonstrating Christian principles at all times.
